01. What voltage does it use?

Electrical usage is a crucial aspect, directly related to user and operator safety. PLCs accept two types of power sources:

● AC (e.g., 100-240V)
● DC (e.g., 24V)

Another important aspect is the input/output current. The input can accept either DC or AC, and the output can also accept two types of current, for example, DC 24V and AC 220V.

When selecting a PLC, it's essential to check the specifications for each series, including the input current (in amps) and output type (e.g., relay, transistor, or triac).


For example, the FX5UC-32MR/DS series PLC. In the CPU Module function module:
Input/Output = Number of inputs = 32 inputs (divided into Input 16 and Output 16)
Power supply capacity = 2 types: 5 V DC (900 mA [775 mA]) or 24 V DC (480 mA [360 mA])
I/O type = DC Input can be Sink / Source Relay Output


02 INPUT/OUTPUT

All PLC series are manufactured for automation systems, from simple to complex. Some series offer only one module option, such as the MELSEC iQ-R and MELSEC-Q, allowing for significant expansion of inputs and outputs to connect to numerous devices or machines.

However, some PLC series, such as the MELSEC iQ-F and MELSEC-F, have limited input/output options. Before purchasing, it's important to consider the appropriate application and the possibility of future module expansion.

What types of inputs are available? Generally, there are two main types of inputs:

● Analog inputs, which can accept various voltage signals.
● Digital inputs, such as common On/Off switches.

How many types of outputs are there?

● Relays are very popular because they can control both AC and DC loads.
● Transistors are much faster than relays but can only be used with DC.
● Triacs are semiconductors like transistors but can only be used with AC.


03 System Connectivity Network

This factor is extremely important, especially in large-scale production systems. Error monitoring is crucial to minimize production line downtime. When selecting a PLC, it's essential to choose one with the necessary network capabilities to integrate with FA (Factor Analysis) equipment and allow for centralized system monitoring. 04 Memory Capacity

In this section, each series will have a different amount of memory, and more modules can be added to increase its capacity. The larger the memory capacity, the more programmable control is possible.
